As the weather starts to cool down and the leaves begin to change color, it’s time to start thinking about how to transition your skincare routine for fall. Just as you switch out your wardrobe for cozy sweaters and cute boots, your skin needs a little extra TLC as well. Here are a few skincare tips to help you keep your skin glowing all season long.
Best skincare tips for fall
Exfoliate
Exfoliate regularly. One of the best ways to prep your skin for fall is to make sure you’re exfoliating regularly. This will help slough off any dead skin cells that have built up over the summer and leave your skin feeling smooth and soft. I like to use a physical exfoliator 2-3 times a week, but if your skin is on the sensitive side, you may want to stick to once a week or even just once every other week.
Level up your serum game
Incorporate a hydrating serum into your routine. Now that the weather is starting to get drier, it’s important to make sure you’re using a hydrating serum in addition to your regular moisturizer. I like to use one that contains hyaluronic acid, which is a powerful ingredient that helps bind moisture to the skin.
Protect your skin from the sun
Use SPF every day. Just because the sun isn’t as strong in the fall doesn’t mean you can skip out on sunscreen! In fact, I like to use an SPF 30 or higher during this time of year because the sun’s rays can still be damaging, even when it’s not super sunny outside.
Moisturize, Moisturize, Moisturize!
During the summer months, we tend to sweat more which can lead to dehydration. But just because the temperatures are cooling down doesn’t mean that your skin won’t need extra hydration. In fact, as the weather gets drier, it’s even more important to moisturize regularly.
Look for a creamy moisturizer that will help lock in hydration and leave your skin feeling soft and supple. For an extra boost of hydration, try using a hyaluronic acid serum before applying your moisturizer.
Notes to take away
Fall is a beautiful time of year, but it can also be tough on our skin. Exfoliate regularly to slough off dead skin cells and reveal brighter skin underneath. Make sure to moisturize often—even in the cooler months—to prevent dehydration. And don’t forget about sunscreen! Protecting your skin from the sun’s harmful UV rays is important no matter what time of year it is.
